Bug Fixes & Improvements
Several issues in the transcript generator have been resolved. This update addresses issues where certain transcripts would be cut off, particularly for longer videos or those with varied timestamp formats, as well as problems where some transcripts were generated as empty content and incorrect file naming for some transcripts. Overall accuracy, compatibility, and reliability have been significantly improved, ensuring that all cues are captured and formatted as expected.
June 21, 2025Expanded Language Support for PDF File Format
Support for additional languages has been expanded in the PDF file format to include Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and languages using Devanagari, Gurmukhi, and Bengali scripts. This update enables generated transcripts in PDF format to support more writing systems.
June 16, 2025New Transcript Layout Option Available
A new layout option called Timestamp is now available in the transcript tool. This layout includes timestamps for each segment, making it especially useful for reference, study, or matching transcript text to specific points in the video.
June 16, 2025Font Styling and File Naming Improvements
Font styling has been improved for some languages, resulting in better appearance and readability across all features that support rich text, including generated PDFs. In addition, file naming has been improved to provide clearer distinction between different transcript layouts.
June 16, 2025This tool is designed for publishers who need to generate and download transcripts for personal study, or for those who require a base transcript to create a more professional version. It simplifies the process, making it easy to generate transcripts for either purpose.
When creating a transcript, there are three options to choose from: Basic, Enhanced, and Timestamp.
- The Basic Transcript layout applies minimal formatting, offering a clean and simple text format that is perfect for use as a base to create professional transcripts. It provides the raw transcript layout with no extra formatting or structural changes.
- The Enhanced Transcript layout goes a step further, incorporating additional formatting to improve readability and presentation. It provides a more structured format with better separation of content, making it ideal for those who want a simple yet easily readable transcript.
- The Timestamp Transcript layout includes timestamps for each segment, making it especially useful for reference, study, or when you need to match transcript text to specific points in the video.
Additionally, the tool allows you to create only a portion of the video transcript by specifying the media timestamps (start and/or end) in the video link. This feature is useful when you only need part of the video transcript instead of the entire video.
How to Use
Follow these basic steps to use this tool:
- Go to the Video Library on jw.org and select the video for which you want to generate a transcript.
- Paste the valid share link URL of the video into the input field.
- Optional: If you only need a portion of the transcript, enter the start and/or end timestamps in the video URL, beginning with "&ts=".
- Choose between the Basic, Enhanced, or Timestamp layout options.
- Click the Generate Transcript button. The tool will process and generate your transcript.
- Once the transcript is generated, you can download it in your preferred format: TXT or PDF.
- To search, enter a word or phrase in the search box. The tool will highlight all instances in the transcript.
- You can navigate through the search results using the previous and next arrow buttons in the search bar, or by pressing the Enter key to jump to the next instance.
- If you wish, you can also copy the transcript directly to your clipboard by clicking the Copy button.
Limitations
This tool may sometimes incorrectly indicate that the video URL does not have a transcript available, even though one is available. This can occur if the parameter values in the URL do not yield a valid result. If this happens, locate the video in the Video Library and use the share feature there.
This tool currently has limitations related to language support. The PDF file format is not available for all languages due to differences in writing systems. If the transcript language you selected does not have a PDF download option, that language is not supported for PDF output.
Currently, the PDF file format supports the following writing systems:
- Bengali script
- Chinese script
- Cyrillic script
- Devanagari script
- Greek script
- Gurmukhi script
- Japanese script
- Korean script
- Roman script
- Thai script
However, some languages within these writing systems may still contain unsupported characters, which can also prevent PDF download. Additionally, some right-to-left (RTL) languages may display incorrectly depending on your device or software support. The TXT file format, however, is available for all languages.
